IV Pad
Shown is a 5x3.5x.75-inch Dragon Skin block with embedded tubing. This is used by the College of Nursing for intravenous (IV) training.

Ingredients

  • Dragon Skin Part A (Smooth-on) 88ml
  • Dragon Skin Part B (Smooth-on) 88ml
  • Slacker (Smooth-on) 44ml
  • Mold Release (Smooth-on)
  • Flesh Pigment (Smooth-on)
  • Plastic Cups
  • Stirrers
  • Scale
  • Baby Powder
  • 3D printed mold 1 (main box)
  • 3D printed mold 2 (removable wall with holes)
  • (2) 1’ of tubing, ¼” in diameter
  • (1) 1.5” of tubing, 5/16” in diameter
  • (1) Slide clamp
  • (2) wooden dowels (small enough to fit inside tubing)

Instructions

  • Thoroughly spray mold release in mold, making sure to get all the crevices, corners, and the breakaway wall. Keep in mind, you will not be able to spray a second time as the can suggests due to the tubing.
  • Put wooden dowels inside of the tubing
  • Slide the tubing through the breakaway wall and through the holes on the mold, do not spray mold after this point or the tubing will not stay embedded inside the block
  • Put a rubber band around the mold to hold everything together when you add your mixture
  • Put a plastic cup on a scale and tare it
  • Pour 88 mL of Part B into the cup
  • Add desired flesh pigment, stir thoroughly, ensuring to scrape the sides of the cup and the stirrer into the cup
  • Pour 44 mL of Slacker, stir thoroughly
  • Pour 88 mL of Part A, stir thoroughly. You now have 12 minutes till your mixture begins curing
  • Pour your mixture into the mold
  • Let it cure for 40 minutes
  • Remove the rubber band and the removable wall
  • Remove your IV pad from the mold, making sure not rip out the tubing
  • Wipe of any extra mold release with a paper towel
  • Apply baby powder on the IV pad to remove any remaining stickiness
  • Remove the wooden dowels and connect your embedded tubing with the 5/16” diameter tubing
