Injection Pad
Shown is a ~1.5 inch tall needle injection pad, 2.5 inches at its widest diameter and 2 inches at its smallest. These pads are used by the College of Nursing to practice needle injection through the different layers of skin.

Ingredients

  • Dragon Skin Part A (Smooth-on) Dermis layer: 16ml, Subcutaneous layer: 32ml, Muscle layer: 13ml
  • Dragon Skin Part B (Smooth-on) Dermis layer: 16ml, Subcutaneous layer: 32ml, Muscle layer: 13ml
  • Slacker (Smooth-on) Dermis layer: 8ml, Subcutaneous layer: 42ml
  • Mold Release (Smooth-on)
  • Flesh Pigment (Smooth-on)
  • Blood Pigment (Smooth-on)
  • Plastic Cups
  • Stirrers
  • Scale
  • Baby Powder
  • 3D Printed Mold

Instructions

  • Thoroughly spray mold release in the mold, making sure to get all the crevices and corners
  • Put a plastic cup the scale, tare it
  • Start with the top layer, the dermis, pour 16 mL of Part B into the cup
  • Mix in the desired amount of flesh pigment, stir thoroughly, making sure to scrape the sides of the cup, scrape off the stirrer into the cup, and that the pigment is properly dispersed (no marbling of color)
  • Tare scale
  • Pour 8 mL of Slacker, stir thoroughly
  • Spray your mold a second time
  • Tare the scale again
  • Pour Part A, the same volume of Part B, stir thoroughly. You now have 12 minutes till your mixture begins curing
  • Divide your mixture equally into the two compartments in the mold
  • Let sit for 20 minutes before pouring the next layer (subcutaneous layer)
  • Tare scale
  • Into a new cup, pour 32 mL of Part B into the cup, add no pigment
  • Tare scale
  • Pour 42 mL of Slacker, since there is no pigment to gauge how well the slacker is incorporated, stir thoroughly
  • Tare scale
  • Pour Part A, the same volume as you poured in Part B, stir thoroughly. You now have 12 minutes till your mixture begins curing
  • Divide your mixture evenly into the mold
  • Let sit for 20 minutes before pouring next layer (muscle layer)
  • Tare scale
  • Into a new cup, pour 13 mL of Part B
  • Add blood pigment, stir thoroughly
  • Pour Part A, the same volume as you poured in Part B, stir thoroughly
  • Divide your mixture equally into your mold
  • Let cure for 40 minutes
  • Remove the needle injection pads from the mold
  • Use a paper towel to wipe off the mold release residue
  • Put baby powder on the injection pads to remove any remaining stickiness
